Arizona Game and Fish
Department Calendar Photo Contest
The Arizona Game and Fish Department is pleased to announce that for the first time we are hosting a photo contest. Winners will be published in the department’s 2007 calendar.
Eligibility
The contest is open to any photographer except employees of the Arizona Game and Fish Department and members of their immediate families (parents, spouses, children, or siblings living in the same household).

(a junior is a person

Game mammals
Nongame mammals
Game birds

Reptiles

Fish
Wildlife in hiding
(blending into their surroundings using natural camouflage)
Nature-based activities on land:
people enjoying recreation such as hiking, hunting, camping (sports such as baseball are excluded)
Nature-based activities on water: people
enjoying recreation such as boating and fishing
Arizona Game and Fish Department Wildlife Areas
Entrants should categorize their photos, but judges may recategorize any entry they feel would better fit another category. All animal photos must depict wildlife found in Arizona. Pets and livestock photos are not eligible.
Format for Submissions
Digital images: Digital images on disk must be accompanied by 8x10 inch prints on photo paper. Images must be: 300 dpi, jpeg or tiff, 8 bit and at least 9x12 inches. Digital pictures taken with a 6-megapixel camera or larger are preferred. Manipulation of digital images must be limited to the kinds of manipulation that can be done with traditional film printing techniques, such as burning in and dodging, eliminating dust spots, etc. Images in which content has been altered will not be accepted.
Transparencies: 35 mm or larger in positive form are preferred (no negatives). Transparencies must be accompanied by 8x10 inch prints on photo paper. Slide sheets are fine, but please do not use the small plastic sleeves intended to protect individual 35mm slides.
Entry Procedure
Each contestant may submit one entry per category, for a maximum allowed total of 12 entries per person.
Each entry must be identified with the owner’s full name and address and the entry category typed or printed clearly on the back of each print and on each transparency mount and disk.
Send an entry form with your submission, with the following information (or use the entry form provided):
Name of photographer
Mailing address (good through December 2006)
Telephone number (good through December 2006)
E-mail address
Category (see “Categories”)
Subject/Location
Where and when taken
Camera model (optional)
Film type (optional)
Shutter speed and f-stop (optional)
Do not include other materials with your submission (for example, subscription orders, draw applications, checks, correspondence or the like).
Receipt of entries will not be acknowledged unless a self-addressed, stamped postcard is included.
Incomplete submissions will be disqualified.
Return of Entries
Only original transparencies will be returned by first-class mail. No other materials will be returned.
Prizes
First, second and third place awards will be given for each category, plus one “Best in Show” for the cover photo.
“Best in Show” Cover Photo (1 winner) — $300
First place (12 winners) — $200
Second place (12 winners) — A free one-year subscription to “Arizona Wildlife Views” and your choice of one department publication (“Man and Wildlife in Arizona,” “A Field Guide: Amphibians and Reptiles in Arizona,” “Almost All Things Edible,” “Wildlife Views Special Edition,” or “Wildlife Viewing Guide”)
Third place (12 winners) — A free one-year subscription to “Arizona Wildlife Views” magazine and your choice of an AZGFD travel mug, hat or mouse pad.
All winners will receive calendars and certificates of achievement. Winning names will be posted on azgfd.gov.
Judging
Entries will be judged on the basis of creativity, photographic quality, and effectiveness in conveying the unique character of the subject. The judges’ decisions are final. Judges reserve the right to not award a winner in any specific category.
Deadline
The deadline for receipt of entries is 5 p.m. (MST) Aug. 1, 2006 (postmarks do not count). Entries received after this date will be disqualified. Send all entries to: Arizona Game and Fish Department, IEPB photo contest, 2221 W. Greenway Road, Phoenix, AZ 85023.
Rights and Permissions
Photographers retain copyright to their submitted photographs. By submitting one or more entries, contestants agree to have their submitted photographs published in the Arizona Game and Fish Department 2007 calendar and used in promotional materials for that calendar.
